Weekly Card Princess of Pentacles

140421 Tarot Illuminati Princess Pentacles
Tarot Illuminati

Since we’ve looked at this level of Pentacles before, let’s use the Princess of Pentacles for a bit of card combining.

Wait a minute!  We’ve seen her before?  Remember, there are decks that use Princess instead of Page in the court cards.  Tarot Illuminati is one of those decks.  So you’ll encounter Princess, Prince, Queen and King in the court of Tarot Illuminati suits, instead of Page, Knight, Queen and King.  Same elemental energies, just a different title.

How would our earthy Princess respond when she meets II High Priestess?  Perhaps she would understand intuitive mysteries as connected to the mysteries of the natural world.

How about if we put her through a 7 of Swords experience?  Is she likely to be comfortable or not with the deception and mental flux associated with that card?

How is she at negotiating 2 of Pentacles?  Really imagine her in her robes and with her long, wild hair at the rocky shores, keeping her balance.

Does she appreciate a visit with V The Heirophant?  Does she care about the meaning within structures and traditions?

A wonderful game to play with any of your court cards is to have them take a stroll amoungst a variety of the cards from your deck.  Pull out some of the minors, a few majors and another court card or two.  Arrange them as you’d like and move your subject court card from card to card.  What’s the story that would result from each encounter?  You’ll find you have a richer appreciation of who each of the courts are when you’ve seen them in many situations and with many people.

Be a student of the world this week!

Again?!  Really?  Again?!

Do you have that reaction to some of the circumstances in your life that just seem to come up over and over and . . . . ?

Let’s take a look at how 7 of Swords can contribute to recurring patterns in our life, since it seems to be a recurring theme for us.

Most often, when Tarot gives you a repeated card over time, there’s something you can learn to do to better navigate life.  So, as you look at the image up there, what’s the story you tell yourself about what’s happening?

We’ve got somebody carrying a bunch of swords and 3 more are on the ground.  He’s looking back at them.

So what do those swords represent?  Since we’re in the world of the mind, “information” is one good interpretation.

And why is our figure looking back at the information on the scattered behind them?  Is he thinking “I just can’t take in any more”?  Or “Those just aren’t important”?  Or “I’ve got enough, I don’t need more”?

Well, in the deceptive world of 7 of Swords, having as much information as you can gather is a good thing.  We’ve got lots of ways that we deceive ourselves about how much we know, when we haven’t gathered all the info that’s available.  And there are lots of reasons for why we get into that self-deception.  Sometimes, we just really don’t want to know the truth (my son did what??!).  Sometimes, we’ve already got too much on our plate (I need to revise this report by when??!).  And sometimes, we just don’t like what we’re going to hear (you mean everything I just did for the last week is worthless??!).

What are the hard questions you need to ask yourself this week about the stuff that keeps biting you in the <select body part here>?  Is there something or someone you’re always complaining about that you need to take another look at?  Keep in mind that the best remedy for a returning 7 of Swords is to go pick up those swords that you left behind.

Don’t beat yourself up, just go pick up the swords.

Good fortune to all of us in getting to the truth this week!

Weekly Card 7 of Swords Revisited

140130 Herbal 7 of Swords
The Herbal Tarot

We’ve come full cycle: we’re back to the new moon.

Today, western Tropical astrology has the moon in Aquarius, which corresponds to 7 of Swords.

(Just to add to your connection to the moon, there are three other tarot cards with moon correspondences:  6 of Pentacles, which corresponds to moon in Taurus; 4 of Cups, corresponding to moon in Cancer; and 9 of Wands, corresponding to moon in Sagittarius.)

We’ve looked at 7 of Swords before, so let’s deepen with a look at the connection between tarot and astrology.

Very briefly – and very superficially — remember that each suit is connected with an element: Pentacles with earth, Cups with water, Swords with air, and Wands with fire.  And remember that the 12 signs of the zodiac all have elemental correspondences:  Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the fire signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are the earth signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are the air signs, and Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are the water signs.  So, Pentacles will have cards associated with Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, Cups will have cards associated with the 3 water signs, and likewise for Swords and the air signs, and Wands and the fire signs.

Let’s check:  Swords are associated with air signs.  Yup, Aquarius is an air sign.

Air and Aquarius have a cool, impersonal, um, air about them.  And you can think of the quality of freedom associated with them both.  Imagine air getting into pretty much anywhere it likes.  If you’ve ever tried to close up all the drafts in your home, you’ve been up against the difficulties of containing air.  Just as difficult as containing your thoughts: the monkey mind that spiritual disciplines talk about.  Oops, more air: spirit, speech.

The moon is an old friend by now.  We know about the changes in appearance from night to night.  And we know that, as a symbol for our intuition, it leads us into breakthroughs.

Play with the concepts of Air/Aquarius and the moon and see what kinds of combinations you come up with.  See how they fit with what you’ve learned about 7 of Swords to deepen your understanding of the image.

Then consider the side of you that you keep hidden from the public, and let your mind wander.  See if you can discover your hidden intentions this week.

To step it up a notch, choose one to build on.  How can you make that intention into something your public can see  by the next full moon?

I double dog dare you to show your hidden face!
