Weekly Card Two of Wands

150716 2 of Wands Shadowscapes
Shadowscapes Tarot

Another first!   Finally, a look at the inspiring 2 of Wands.

At the Ace, we get an inkling of a calling. Now that the 2 shows up, we’re getting a sense of where in the world we’re going to express that inkling.

Our inner enthusiasm, our inner drive, is seeking its outer counterpart.

Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Notice, in the Shadowscapes image, that our persona, accompanied by a whole tribe of fanciful fur family – the instinctual selves – is very removed from the rest of the world. In the Rider Waite Smith image, it’s the same situation: looking out at the world, holding fast to our Wand – our growing sense of purpose – considering possibilities from a distance.

So, where in your life are you feeling the call to express an inner ambition? Shadowscapes says we don’t have to be realistic at this point – let all of your inner voices have a say.

Now’s the time to look around to see where the possibilities are. Get a sense of how you and the outer world match – or don’t. If there’s tweaking to be done for a good match, do some brainstorming and planning.

Settle in with the match and the meaning that bring you the most enthusiasm. You don’t need to roll with anything yet; just get used to the possibilities.

And keep your big picture eye out for opportunities!

Elegant Expression

Divine Messenger, Colin Terris, paperweight, 2005

There’s an elegance and visionary quality to the numbers for March. It’s an excellent time to be open for Divine inspiration pertaining to your involvement in business or those areas where you’re the one in charge. How do you express yourself on the material plane?

Decision-making can feel a little more dicey than at other times this year, and much more so than last month. We’re all of a more divided mind, perhaps feeling one thing while thinking another, perhaps able to feel equal weight in the pros and cons. Often, it’s likely to be, “I want to do one thing, but I know I should be more considerate”.

This combination of numbers can lead to some uncomfortable feelings, with a sense of crankiness about facing things we don’t want to look at. Specifically, how our materialism impacts our relationships or our sense of Divine “rightness”. We could be hyper-sensitive to criticism about putting our position before our friendships, or putting the bottom line before the people in the company. That can apply to us as consumers, as well as producers.

There are beautiful opportunities to make materialism and commerce an avenue for heart-felt connections, if we stay open to inspiration. Be more attached to being a messenger for the Universe than to the empire you’ve built up – or to any guilt associated with your empire-building. Put it aside and connect with the people around you, discovering how leaders can connect with the individuals they lead as peers.

Yes, as peers! There’s a brilliant push toward cooperation, that paradisiacal notion of walking side by side, even with the Creator. We all get to be expressive in this paradigm.

Let your material side bring you closer to others!

Weekly Card 2 of Cups Makes a Mess

150101 2 of Cups Alice
The Alice Tarot

Oh, this tea party is so wonderfully 2 of Cups!

We’ve got two individuals who aren’t necessarily an immediate match sharing a portion of their individual journeys. The table between them is loaded with all sorts of good stuff as well as the mess from used up good stuff. And it’s all happening out in the open.

We’ve seen the 2 of Cups before. You’ll remember from Tarot . . . It’s Easier Than You Think that we’re in the land of choice and balance as applied to emotions, relationships and creativity. It’s the intimate connection card.

And intimate connections are messy. Sometimes we get so caught up in the creative flow that we can’t possibly stop to clean up the mess without sacrificing flow. Sometimes we find out that we’ve become intimate with a total crazy person (okay, so not everybody with straw in their hair wearing tie dye is crazy – hello, from days in the garden).

We don’t always know what we’re choosing until we get into the relationship. Look at the outside of the house. Beautiful and impressive, isn’t it? Worth the exploration.

Some relationships are there to share and enjoy the good stuff. Some last a little longer. And if we find that the madness and mess outweigh the good stuff we can make the same choice Alice did when she was fed up with the tea party: walk away.

But while we’re in the adventure . . . .

Enjoy the gifts of creative connection!

Weekly Card 2 of Pentacles

140410 Tarot Illuminati 2 of Pentacles
Tarot Illuminati

How are you doing with all those balls you’re keeping up in the air?

2 of Pentacles acknowledges that we sometimes have our hands full dealing with change.  And those stormy seas reflect the emotional state we can get into while trying to adapt and stay flexible.

Every life has its ups and downs.  We’re just more adapted to some of the up and down patterns than others.  The hard truth that 2 of Pentacles tells us is “things will never settle down”.

140410 RWS 2 of Pentacles
Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Its wisdom is that, if we put the elements of our lives in service to our purpose (see that infinity sign that connects the pentacles in our juggler’s hands?), we will be able to harmonize those elements successfully.  I’m sure you’ve found the zen of organization at least once or twice in your life.  2 of Pentacles can bring you to that state.  You know, the one where you’re making the best use of the resources you have.  The one where you’re interacting with life, not acting on – or acting out! – or reacting to.

This is where the meaning “skillful piloting leads to far-reaching success” comes from.

So what are the elements of your life that you’re trying to balance?  2 of Pentacles promises that you’ll find a way to keep them spinning!

Weekly Card 2 of Swords Revisited

140123 2 of Swords Blake
William Blake Tarot

Since the moon’s in Libra for most of the day today, according to Western Tropical Astrology, let’s revisit the 2 of Swords.

Huh, what?!

What does astrology have to do with tarot and moon . . . Libra . . . 2 of Swords . . . what???

There are correspondences between tarot and astrology and another cousin, numerology.  There is more than one system of correspondence, and the one I use is the one I most often run across: the one credited to Aleister Crowley.  In that system, 2 of Swords corresponds to the moon in Libra (and also to 56/11 in numerology).

If you know nothing about astrology or numerology, you can file the idea of correspondences exactly where it best suits you.  And if you do have some understanding of those systems, you can use what you know to enrich tarot.

Lets look at the images on the 2 of Science in the William Blake Tarot by Ed Buryn.

(Okay, I know I just confused you with all that information about correspondences.  I’m about to do more: Buryn’s Blake Tarot uses Science for Swords, Painting for Pentacles, Music for Cups and Poetry for Wands.   Remember, we’re under the influence of the moon, where mystery – and often confusion – is a given.)

We’ve got a child standing in supplication by an open door guarded by a howling dog.  Could this be innocence at the entry to experience?  It’s in our imaginations that we speculate on potentials and possibilities. And there we can get hung up in that famously Libran inability to choose.  There’s the rub: 2 of Swords is all about choice without external interference.

Rider Waite Smith Tarot
Rider Waite Smith Tarot

There’s a story in the Rider Waite Smith tarot that progresses from the 10 of Swords to the Ace of Swords.  At the 2 of Swords point in the story, the widow of a slain warrior is in mourning.  Those swords she holds are the swords of defiance.  She’s blinded to the way of peace and is seeking revenge.  Yet she does not move.  Here we have experience, with the potential of an entry to renewed innocence.

Now, with the moon in Libra, you can look to the areas of conflict in your life, to the circumstances that lead you to inner turmoil.  Where are you seeking vengeance?   Can you find your way from there to Blake’s resolution . . . . .

innocence into a new experience
